I must need my head examined!

Kettlebell Squat on a Bosu ball

Don’t be mistaken. Don’t be misled. The smile is not a smile. The smile is a grimace.

Roughly translated the smile would say “If I ever get off this Bosu ball without dropping this 12kg weight on my toe, you are for it. Darrell you want me to do how many!? And you are taking photographs. You had better be counting.” He wasn’t.

I am two weeks into a Strength and Conditioning Plan with Darrell.

A session includes:

  • 2 high intensity intervals of 500m rowing
  • Split Squats on core board
  • Single leg Cable Press
  • Bosu Kettlebell Squats
  • Bosu press ups

I usually follow this with a few lengths swimming as a warm down and to reduce the ache that I know I’m going to feel for the next few days. Even so my upper chest and shoulders are still aching from the Bosu press ups.

Yesterday I did this session on my own and went for a swim afterwards. Normal so far. Even the few lengths I did just using breaststroke arms were normal. But this was not enough. I felt the need to do some Butterfly!?

I have been known to open my big mouth and suggest to complete strangers that kicking twice in the stroke would make it easier. To which their response is usually “Show me.” So apart from the odd length here and there to demonstrate, I have not done butterfly for years. Why do I choose to do it after such a heavy gym session? What is wrong with my head? No, don’t answer that!

If you’re feeling strong enough to do butterfly, your upperbody strength must be quite something. I’m always amazed at the variety of torture a pe teacher or fitness trainer can conjure up. You know it’s all for your own good though.

🙂 it was only 2 lengths, and I’d forgotten how to breathe!
