After an initial discussion with the Recruitment Manager for the 13-14 Race, David Cusworth, we decided to do things backwards. So before I even applied for the Race, I had already obtained the medical report and knew that I would be accepted for the insurance.

I filled in the application form over Easter 2012 and was given an interview date in May.

The day of my interview was the first time I had met David Cusworth. He had a group of interviewees and gave a presentation to all of us. He said this presentation was designed to put us off, to make us all aware of the harsh realities of life on a stripped-down racing yacht. The only effect it had on me was to make me even more keen!
